The IZES gGmbH had the great pleasure of leading the official Kick-off Meeting of the INTERREG EUROPE project BiodIvErSe on June 25–26, 2025, in Saarbrücken. BiodIvErSe unites 9 partners from 7 European regions to jointly address the most pressing ecological challenges of our time: climate change, biodiversity loss and land-use transformation. We believe these priorities must no longer be tackled in isolation – and instead pursue land-integrated photovoltaic systems as innovative, multifunctional solutions. Across Europe – from Germany (Saarland), Poland, Latvia, Ukraine, Austria, Bosnia and Herzegovina to Greece – we face shared challenges and opportunities. That’s why BiodIvErSe is built on collaborative knowledge exchange and policy learning across regional borders. Over the next 4 years, the project will co-develop coherent and interconnected regional policy instruments that support the sustainable use of land through innovative PV approaches. The project kick-off event served for:
• Built trust, shared knowledge, and laid the foundation for transforming how our regi ons design integrated sustainability policies
• Two interactive workshops on transregional knowledge hubs & stakeholder engagement
• Field visits to the Agri-PV site in Dirmingen and the coal heap site Duhamel as PV-site with integrated biodiversity supporting areas in Ensdorf (Saarland)
The two-day event gained attention from the public by being included as features in the Saarländischer Rundfunk (SR) (radio & TV) and the production of the official BiodIvErSe image film. A heartfelt thank-you to all speakers, participants and hosts – especially to our policy authority partner, the Ministry of Economics, Innovation, Digitalisation and Energy of Saarland (MWIDE), as well as the stratetic partner RAG AG and RAG Montan Immobilien GmbH – for the outstanding support and hosts of the events!
